    Description

A pair of French Directoire patinated and gilt bronze figural candlesticks circa 1790
An elegant and charming pair of French Directoire candlesticks, dating from the late 18th century, exquisitely cast in patinated and gilt bronze. Each candlestick features a finely modeled putto (cherub) seated on a cylindrical pedestal, holding a hunting horn-shaped arm that supports a single candleholder.
The craftsmanship is of superb quality, with detailed casting on both the figures and the ornate bases. The cylindrical columns are adorned with classical gilt bronze appliqués of mythological griffins, adding a refined neoclassical touch to the design. The bases rest on square plinths, ensuring stability and enhancing their architectural elegance.
