Description
Wedding buckle with belt from Soufli (Thrace, Evros, Greece), 19th century
Gilt brass. The “crown” is adorned with gilt floral ornamentation and inset green and red coloured stones, set against a ground of green, blue, and black enamel. At the top, a pair of confronted gilt birds is depicted amidst floral motifs and is richly decorated with daisies. The clasp secures with a metal pin. The belt is articulated, composed of 28 rectangular segments (6.50 x 2 cm), mounted onto a woven textile band.
