Athens 2004 Olympic Torch with Complete Torchbearer Ensemble and Athletics Ticket Stubs
Official 2004 Athens Summer Olympics torch, constructed of aluminum and olive wood. Torch was designed by Andreas Varotsos and manufactured by GA & L Harrington. The torch was designed with inspiration drawn from the clean, harmonious lines of an olive leaf. The combination of wood and metal reflects the contrasting tones found on each side of the leaf, while its ergonomic form suggests the natural extension of a moving flame. The front of the aluminium casing bears the Olympic rings alongside the Athens emblem. The Olympic flame was ignited in Olympia, Greece, on March 25, 2004, before embarking on a global relay across five continents. The journey included all previous host cities of the Games since 1896 and marked the flame’s first appearance in Africa, India, and South America. In total, the torch travelled over 84,000 km during its 141-day relay. This example is accompanied by its original shipping tube.
This lot is accompanied by a complete torchbearer outfit, including the official uniform (T-shirt, shorts, headband, and accessories), as well as a collection of 11 original athletics event ticket stubs. Notably, the ticket group includes stubs from the shot put event held at the Ancient Stadium of Olympia—an exceptional and symbolic competition—tickets for which were available only to spectators who had purchased full-series passes for all athletics sessions. Dimensions (Torch): 653 mm length × 60 mm max diameter
