1st Edition Scent Bottle, 1982, Painted Resin and Glass Perfume Bottle.
Original, Un-used, almost full in very good condition, including the box, guide sheet and outer box. It has been in the same collection since it was bought during the 1990s.
    Guide sheet:
“The First Edition Perfume Bottle, handpainted in France. Signed by the artist Niki de Saint Phalle. / This sculpture-originale merits the same care as any work of art. Always open bottle by holding the base and turning. Because it is hand painted with precious materials, avoid holding or touching the serpents.”
    Niki de Saint Phalle:
“I created this perfume for myself. I wanted it to express the fantasies and eroticism which are in my life and work, now I share it with you. The ingredients are a mixture of fantastic flowers – a bit of sun – the amusement of the serpents – the mystique of the moon and stars, and a dash of love.”

Niki de Saint Phalle was a self-educated French sculptor, painter, and filmmaker. Feminism, violence, mythology, personal desires are some of the frequent themes explored by the artist during her career. This beautiful perfume bottle is a first edition, the unique design calls to mind both the feminine and the fearful, with the snake design calling to mind female figures such as Medusa.
