«Έργο Μανώλη Κουλουκουντή, Νέα Υόρκη 24 Μαΐου 1955
Ο Μ. Κουλουκουντής μένει στο Hotel Pierre στη Νέα Υόρκη, ήταν από τους μεγάλους Έλληνες εφοπλιστές.
Ζωγράφιζε σε ότι καρτονάκι έβρισκε μαζί του είχε πάντα ένα μικρό κουτάκι ακουαρέλες. Στις δεξιώσεις που πήγαινε με την σύζυγό του Ευγενία (επονομαζόμενη Imperatrice) κόρη Χατζηλία, ζωγράφιζε καράβια συνεχώς που τα έδινε στους φίλους του. Τα τρίπλα αυτά σκίτσα απεικονίζουν καράβια του Νικήτα Ρούσσου εφοπλιστή από τη Λέρο και πατέρα της πεθεράς της Λίλης Βενιζέλου μητέρας του Λευτέρη Βενιζέλου. Μαρίκα Βενιζέλου Ρούσσου.

M. Kouloukountis was staying at the Hotel Pierre in New York and was one of the great Greek shipowners.
He used to paint on any small piece of cardboard he could find and always carried with him a little watercolor box. During the receptions he attended with his wife Eugenia (nicknamed Imperatrice), daughter of Chatzilias, he constantly painted ships, which he would give to his friends.
These small sketches depict ships belonging to Nikitas Roussos, a shipowner from Leros and father of Lili Venizelou’s mother-in-law, Marika Venizelou-Roussou.

I am enclosing the sketch I made at Lemos’ (Kostas Lemos) party, but also the one I made at your home, so that you may have a pendant piece!
I wish you a pleasant trip and happy holidays in Athens.”
