A late 18th century Italian jug with Greek inscription (mastrapas) (Pesaro, circa 1780).
Greek inscription in medallion, multicolored with floral decoration.
The inscription in Greek:
“Δεν πίνουν οι Τούρκοι το κρασί, το πίνουν οι Ρωμαίοι, το πίνει η φτωχολογιά, να λησμονούν τα χρέη” translated as: The Turks do not drink wine, the Romans (Greeks) drink it, the poor drink it, to forget the debts.
Height: 23 cm.
Condition: Generally in good condition, some wear due to age and use, some dents and color loss in a few parts. Please note that it is rare to be found in this condition.
