Collection of Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders, Γιατροί χωρίς σύνορα), Donation from Takis. Notes
Takis (Panayiotis Vassilakis), one of the most significant figures of post-war Greek art, devoted his practice to exploring invisible forces such as magnetism, light, and energy. Moved by humanitarian crises and inspired by the work of Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), the artist donated a collection of works to support the organisation’s medical missions. This gesture was deeply personal, rooted in the memory of his mother, who served as a volunteer nurse during the Greco-Italian War. The present works belong to the series Magnetic Walls – The 4th Dimension, exemplifying Takis’ pioneering use of magnetism and light to create dynamic compositions where matter appears in constant motion – what he described as “living sculpture”. Through their association with Médecins Sans Frontières, these works transcend their aesthetic dimension, becoming at once artworks and acts of humanitarian contribution.
