Wedding buckle with belt from Soufli (Thrace, Evros, Greece), 19th century
Gilt brass. The “crown” is adorned with gilt floral ornamentation and inset coloured stones, set against a ground of green, blue, and black enamel. At the top, a pair of confronted gilt birds is depicted amidst floral motifs. The clasp secures with a metal pin. The belt is articulated, composed of 31 rectangular segments (6.50 x 2 cm), mounted onto a woven textile band.
